Livebearers are fish that give birth to live fish called fry and not eggs like most fish, they consist of three main groups which are Swordtails, Guppies and Mollies, they are probably one of the easiest fish to breed because as i said they are one of only a few fish that give birth to fry, now i will give you step by step on how to know when your female is pregnant and how to breed them.
Firstly the fish i will be talking about how to breed are Guppies, other fish are almost exactly the same but with some different actions which are needed to be taken if you are to suceed.
Fistly you should buy one male to every three females.
Secondly it would be better to put the temparature in your tank up another 2-3 degrees or so.
While breeding fish it is advisable to do a partial water change of 20% every day for a week.
When you notice your female is bigger and has a black dot next to her anal fin, this normally means she is pregnant and should be moved into the breeder net on her own, when you are sure she has gave birth to all of her fry it would be a good idea to keep her in a differnt tank on her own or in a different breeding net for 2-3 days to recover just to make sure she is not streesed by other fish by being chased, then 2-3 days later she is well enough to be put with the other fish again.
It is normally a good idea to leave the fry in the net until they are double in size and then you can release them into the tank with the other fish, for the short time they are in the breeder net you should feed them ground up floating fish flakes.
