Sand
Sand, in my opinion looks nice but is not very easy to use.
First there is the task of cleaning, i have found that the best way to clean sand is to syphon the sand out into a bucket and wash thoroughly until clean and no black parts remain. Then   simply get a handfull and put it in youre hand and sprinkle until evenly spread.

Another good way is to get some tubing ( 8 mm) and hold next sand but not on it and simply syphon the dirt off while the sand remains put.

I have used sand in my tropicaltank and it works well as you will see on my picture coming soon!!!=)
